Purpose: AOL Mobile Search: Another search engine, compacted for the iPhone.
Visually Appealing? Yes. Not too heavy on the graphics – and very appropriate light lay out.
User Friendly? Yes. The AOL Mobile Search breaks down your results by Web/Images/News. Furthermore, you can choose to collapse all of the categories and display the sole one you need.
Speed? The search runs with fantastic speed (unlike the AP Mobile News search engine). No long waits here – unless of course you don’t have access to a WiFi connection and are running off EDGE (especially during peak hours). But even so, the AOL Mobile Search web app is relatively fast compared to some others.
The Verdict: A good effort and a good outcome. Works great with the iPhone, looks good, user friendly, quick results, and good organization. If only there was a search engine out there that had all this, plus a top of the line e-mail service, calender, comprehensive RSS reader service, quick-type option, and more…
Oh wait…there is:
But don’t worry AOL, nobody expected you to be better than Google. You still did a great job.
What says the…
Geek: I will add AOL Mobile Search to my matrix of search engines which I quantitatively compare daily.
Socialite: AOL has given me the greatest gift ever – AIM – so I owe them. AOL Mobile Search it is.
Soccer Mom: Google is easier to type into my iPhone. Especially after getting my nails done.
