Here’s a bunch of would-be Apple fans who decided to camp outside of the 5th Ave Apple flagship in NYC one week prior to the launch of the iPhone 3G.
While they sure do look like typical Apple fans (minus the cowboy hat), turns out they’re here for a completely different reason.
These guys (and girl) belong to TheWhoFarm, a group of environmentalists whose goal is to convince George W. Bush to convert the 17-acre White House lawn into an organic farm.
In other words, they’re here for the publicity. But regardless of their motif, they’ll still be first in line come Friday morning.

New Zealand

This here is Jonny Gladwell, the world’s first iPhone 3G customer. He’s been parked outside of this New Zealand Vodafone store for 3 days, making him the official first iPhone 3G customer in the world. How? Well, due to the time zone, New Zealand is the first to get the iPhone 3G at 00:01.
So what’s his story…why is he doing this?
Jonny’s stunt isn’t due to his allegiance to Apple. It’s all about his allegiance to his friends and his reputation. His friends bet him to camp outside of the store for 3 days with nothing more than a cell phone, laptop, and yellow pages – without leaving other than for bathroom breaks.
Everything Jonny gets must be delivered to him. It actually seems that he’s not having that bad of a time, given that yesterday he ordered a 45 minute massage.

Japan

This here is Japan’s first iPhone 3G customer, parked right outside of a SoftBank Mobile store in Tokyo.
Hiroyuki Sano is leading the first in a queue of about 30 – although the store’s doors won’t be opening for approximately 2 more days.
Unlike Jonny, Hiroyuki is a true Apple fan. When asked why he’s sacrificing personal comfort for the thrill of being the first to buy the latest iPhone, he responded, "I am a huge Apple an and I’m excited to buy the iPhone, which I find is far better than any other cellphone".
Hiroyuki, dressed in an Apple t-shirt, has been sitting in his fold-out chair since Tuesday morning, eating from the convenience store next door, and patiently awaiting Friday morning.
Congratulations Hiroyuki, you’re the only first-in-line-for-the-iPhone-3G-guy-who-doesn’t-have-an-alterior-motive.

Jonny was a publicity stunt organised by the agency who promotes Vodafone. They ran an ad this morning in the paper (NZ Herald) – he was there to promote Yellow Pages.
