Some of our readers have notified us of the following message on Windows Vista after upgrading to iTunes 7.7:
AppleMobileDeviceHelper has stopped working.
We’re yet to figure out the cause of problem, but here’s a quick solution which seems to work.
You need to run iTunes as administrator
- Find the folder where you installed iTunes
- Find the file called iTunes.exe
- Right mouse click on iTunes.exe
- Select run as adminsitrator
- Follow additional prompts (entering admin password, running as admin all the time, etc)

Big thanks, my problem solved
I never got applemobiledevicehelper error before iTunes 7.7
Running iTunes as admin solved my problem, I do not get applemobiledevicehelper error anymore.
Thanks. I was going crazy trying to figure something out.
Running as Admin didn’t solve the problem for me, my suggestion is don’t install 7.7.
For some reason i cannot find/ do not have the file itunes.exe
This whole thing is extremely frustrating, I am second guessing ever getting vista.
Thank you so much for the advice!! The admin thing worked like a charm!!!! =)
The iTunes.exe should be lcoated in your C drive under Program Files and in the iTunes folder. It is the icon that you normally associate with iTunes (silver record and blue music note). The .exe part is not actually part of the file name! Hope that helps =)
Running as Admin did not solve the problem!
I tried to de-installed the update, but then I got a message that the play-list had been made with a newer version and the program would not start. I re-installed the update and cannot solve the problem. It is very bad because the AppleMobileDeviceHelper tries to launch all the time and if you ignore it, it just keeps bringing up new instances of the installer.
Well- somebody came up with a new way to ruin people’s day!
i tried everything!!! and it still doesnt work….but if i install the older version of itunes will it go away and will i still be able to update my iphone?
Thanks very much for the advice, it’s worked a treat! I was pulling my hair out, it was so annoying!
So this has been happening to me since i installed Itunes – if the run as admin thing doesn’t work, does anybody know where i can get an older version of itunes?
