We recently wrote a brief how-to article explaining how to set up the iPhone remote which controls iTunes and Apple TV wirelessly. However, lots of people still had questions.
That being said, check out this Remote how-to video:
The pass code in the Remote app and in iTunes should match (ours did not because we had multiple takes to show the device loading in iTunes)

I have searched all over the net, I still can’t get this to work properly for me.
I have ensured my phone is using my home wifi, I have synched it a bunch of times, the phone will come up but never the remote under the device
I have Itunes 7.7 and the new 3gIphone I have reinstalled the remote app and that did no good either. I have checked the settings to recognize remotes and still nothing
Spent an hour now trying to get it to work, beyond fustrated

If you are having problems setting up the remote, first ensure you are on the same wifi network on both the iphone and the computer! then check your firewall settings. The firewall settings could either be through your antivirus program or the in-built windows security. If it is the windows firewall, on a Vista system, go to control panel, click on Windows Firewall, a green tick will be shown against the firewall logo. Click on “Change settings”, then in the pop up window, click the “exceptions” tab, make sure that itune has a tick against it. Then press Apply. Restart the itune program and try again. Hope this helps someone!
Is there any point in this app? I mean you have got your itunes library in your iPod/iPhone anyway!
Keith,
connect your iphone/itouch to the network
connect your computer to the network
Open iTunes
When your iPhone/iTouch shows up in iTunes, click the icon
This will provoke iTunes to bring up the screen for your device that asks for a code. Put in the code and enter.
Select a song and it should play on your computer/laptop
if that doesn’t work, you might have to go into options and select the Devices tab and check the box that says “look for ipad/iphone/ipod touch devices” so that it is checked, then redo the above paragraph steps. It should work, but if it doesn’t, email me
hey guys if u cant get it to pop up as a remote in itunes and ur running Windows 7. right click the itunes icon and click “run as admin” it should pop up now. i did for me.
