There’s an extremely quick and easy method to set up push email on your iPhone, iPhone 3G, or iPod Touch, without buying a MobileMe subscription. Although this method doesn’t provide actual push functionality, your iPhone will automatically check for new mail every 15, 30, or 60 minutes – whichever time frame you choose. If there’s new email, you’ll get a red number right over your email icon.
Follow these simple instructions:
1. Go to Settings

2. Go to Fetch New Data

3. Turn Push "On" and Choose the Frequency
Note: For better battery life, fetch less frequently.

What if the “Fetch new Data” option is not in the list?
If it’s fetching it’s not real push because the iPhone has to actively “pull” in the data. Push should give you a notification nearly instantly when you receive and email. With fetching you only get notified in the intervals your phone is set to fetch.
Just wanted to clear that up. Thanks for the suggestion.
are there programs out there that will pull/fetch instantly instead of every 15 min?
thanks
For real-time iPhone email notification, try msgpush.com ) which just launched in beta.
Why msgpush.com?
We wanted our users to be able to use their mail as they always have (with the iPhone Mail application, without modifying, jail-breaking their iPhone or installing any additional applications), but still be notified when new mail arrives into their regular mail accounts. We think that we have succeeded.
With msgpush.com, you point our servers to monitor your IMAP enabled mail account and connect your iPhone to us using the same mechanism as a regular Exchange account. Whether or not you happen to be within your Mail application, your iPhone will beep or buzz within seconds of receiving new email.
This is not just another new email account that happens to provide notifications. Think of msgpush as an extension, or a bolt on to any account that you have setup within Mail. There is no need to mess with forwarding rules or account impersonation and there is no need to manage yet another email address.
We invite ismashphone.com readers to sign up for our limited beta trial and share your feedback with us.
Thanks,
msgpush.com team
