Eliza Block, a part-time iPhone app developer, decided to share some of her earning statistics from her game 2 Across with 9to5mac. And she shocked everyone, especially herself.

2 Across, a crossword puzzle game which integrates puzzles from the New York Times, The Washington Post, The Onion, Thinks.com, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and many others, sells for $5.99 in the App Store.

And how does that $5.99 add up (keeping in mind that Apple takes 30% of the cut)? Eliza makes approximately $2,000 a day. That’s over $700,000 a year.

Here’s a screen shot of her daily download stats (click to enlarge).

As you can tell from Eliza’s receipts, not only is she making some serious dough, but the numbers are growing and growing. Her downloads nearly doubled from one day to the next.

We all knew the App Store would be successful, but nobody would’ve guessed that it would make part-time developers rich.
