What is it?
Winterboard is a replacement for the Springboard.app on the iPhone/iPod touch. Previously named Summerboard on the older 1,X firmware, it provides customization of the interface. Functionality is a little more limited in comparison to Summerboard, but there’s new updates all the time.
Features
- install full themes
- enable user wallpapers on main screen
- change the icon package
- customize the dock (eg. transparency)
- change the status bar look, add and hide icons on it
Limitations
- it uses more resources than the Springboard.app
- crashes often
- only a few themes available at this time
- only 7 customizations included with the default installation
Conclusion
While it has great potential, installing Winterboard at this time is not for those who value reliability over the looks.

only a few themes available? Seriously dude, you need to do some research. I updated Cydia this morning & there was 140+ themes. And I know stability varies, but I’ve never had it crash on me. Weak article.
I’ve been using Winterboard since it debuted, and I’ve had no reliability problems. What issues did you have?
There should only be issues first minute after the installation – the author knows this. But after that, everything should work fine.
this sux you know shit
What is that pink theme you have there in the screenshot? I definitely want to install it, but can’t find it.
I also would like to know what the theme is you showed there!
it’s really nice.
Honestly you didn’t even touch the capabilities of winterboard and how amazing it really is and the things it allows you to do
