A month ago, the Dev-Team was declaring, re: the iPod Touch 2G, "Sorry, no support at this time, but Redsn0w is being actively researched and developed." Talk about abruptly throwing it in reverse:
The iPod Touch 2G is now another member of the “pwned for life” family.
It has a fatal flaw in its bootrom that means you will always be able
to pwn these devices no matter what firmware updates come along. This
is the full, untethered jailbreak, something that iPod Touch 2G users
have not had before today.
The effort was perhaps spurred on by the recent NitroKey Slipstream iPod jailbreak. Then again, NitroKey wants US$15.00 for their efforts; Dev-Team's work was, is, and always will be free, free, free.
DT does caution that the iPod pwnage hasn't yet been blended into the PwnageTool or QuickPwn flows, but encourages industrious DIY'ers to hand-crack their players based on all the info that's already percolated out over the Intertubes.
