Use this guide to jailbreak your iPhone 3.0. Please read the requirements before starting.
This guide works on both Windows and Mac. Mac users have a second jailbreak option, because they can use the already released pwnagetool 3.0.
Keep the following in mind before you begin (as of time of this post):
- redsn0w is available for Windows and Mac and this guide is applicable to both.
- The newest version of iTunes, iTunes 8.2, is required.
- You can only Jailbreak your iPhone 3G and 3GS using this tool.
- You can Jailbreak and Unlock your iPhone 2.0.
- You can Jailbreak iPodTouch 1.0.
- You must restore your iPhone to the latest firmware 3.0.
- redsn0w does not work properly on Vista 64 bit.
Here’s how it works:
All this steps are prerequisites to unlock your 3G phone
How to Unlock iPhone 3G and 3GS Using ultrasn0w
1. Make sure you have the newest iTunes (iTunes 8.2)
2. Back up your iPhone
- Connect your iPhone to iTunes
- Put your phone in airplane mode (calls/texts disrupt the process and make you start over)
- Right click your iPhone
- Press Back Up
3. Download the files
Windows - redsn0w-win_0.8.zip
Mac - redsn0w-mac_0.8.zip
In a future look here for latest file versions.
Latest Firmware Files for your iPhone or iPodTouch (iPhone OS 3.0)
4. Connect your iPhone to iTunes, select your device and Hold Shift and Click Restore
- This step is only needed if you do not run iPhone 3.0 already.
This step just insures that you have the 3.0 firmware on your iPhone.
5. Locate downloaded redsn0w files, unzip and start it
6. At this point just follow the redsn0w software prompts
- Click browse so you can select iPhone 3.0 IPSW file
- Make sure you pick the correct file for your iPhone
- After, IPSW selection redsn0w will identify and process the file
- On this screen keep Cydia if you want it installed (you do)
- Connect your iPhone to USB cable and turn the iPhone off. Follow the instructions on the screen:
- This one is tricky, timing is everything. If you missed the timing just click “Back” and start over.
- Jailbreaking process has started.
You are done when you get a screen with the message “DONE!”
Press “Finish”, and let the installation continue on your iPhone. It is entirely automatic from this point.
If it does not work, or redsn0w is stuck, you probably did not get into DFU mode properly.
Turn your phone back on and start over.

YouTube? Have a iPhone 2 gen and just updated (not recovered) the new 3.0 and after that the new redsn0w. All is working fine (unlock and jailbreak), but YouTube says he cannot connect. Is there a fix already for this ? Thx

The jailbreak process was smooth and I got Cydia… but Cydia installed some apps but they aren’t showing up???
or if they do the crash on startup???

There is one difference, as I’ve tried both on my 2G iPhone. With the redsn0w method, Youtube is still broken. With yesterdays method using the custom ipsw, Youtube worked on the 2G iPhone.
No, I too have a 2G iPhone. Using this method with redsn0w, Youtube is broken. If you successfully try the method posted by iSmashphone yesterday, Youtube works. I’m hoping the dev team will come out with a 0.8 version of redsn0w that fixes the youtube problem, as I prefer it to the dodgy solution using a downloaded customer ipsw.

On a PC: [Your User folder]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
You must have folders set to show hidden files and folders.
Or search *.ipsw

Found a surprising fix that worked for me, I’d like to know if it works for you too.
Simply connected via WiFi, navigated with Safari on the iPhone to http://www.youtube.com , logged in, watched a video successfully, went back to the youtube.app … and it just worked?!! Weird, but all the aspects of the youtube.app are working for me now. On a hacked 2G running 3.0, having done a clean restore and run redsn0w.
when the jailbreaking process ended, it will ask me to click finish. but after that my phone has no respond and when i boot on, it’s not jailbroken. any help?
you probably did not put your iphone into DFU mode properly, try again.
Try putty for windows as SSH client or any FTP client which supports SFTP
found the answer myself… instead of updating, it is better to restore. YouTube will work!
i followed exactly what they said on the screen. but the same thing happens over and over again. 3 sec power button. 10 second home+power button then later hold home button only. then later release. but still can’t work
it worked well on mine but for some reason i cant download anything of cydia it all was says it times out anyone know why? also my staus bar keeps going away then when i turm my screen off nd back on it is there again????
Redsn0w worked fantastic. I upgraded to 3.0 last nite and missed all my apps so much I couldn’t wait for Jailbreak 3.0 to come out. I missed the timing of the Home/Power button the first time but succeeded on the 2nd try. Many thanks to the Dev-Team. Going to re-install all my missing apps now!

I had the same problem. It is all in the timing for the DFU mode
Found the problem: apparently categories (jailbreak app) is not completely wiped out by even a full restore to 3.0 So any apps i had under a cat folder in my jailbroken 2.3 iphone were there but didn’t show up until I reinstalled categories and re-added them to a category.
Unfortunately the category apps was pretty flaky but they just release a fix so it’s all good now.
So I do have a handy guide question/clarification:
1) Do you have to use the “download here” 3.0 or is the itunes auto-download 3.0 OK?
2) Can you “upgrade” to 3.0 or do you have to do the “restore” to 3.0 (upgrade is much faster since you don’t have to copy all your content back over)

Hi, I already hv iPhone upgraded to 3.0 when I opened Redsnow to to browse and locate ipsw file, I cant find it. So I tried downloading 3.0 firmware and afte unzip, I still dont see any ipsw file. Please help.

my only question is that if I backup my phone (contacts ect..) when I jailbreak it what would it do if I restored my phone afterwards.. would it wipe the phone or simply add everything back onto it?? any help would be appreciated and thanks for the time..
sorry.. let me restate that.. lol.. would restoring it remove the jailbreak or keep it and add my contacts back ect..
when you connect first time you will be given an option to restore from you backup profile. That will not remove your jalbreak.
Only restore to factory defaults will.
I’m running 2.20 on a 3G and it’s jailbroken. Will I need to reinstall all the cracked Apps/settings once I upgrade? It’s taken a lot of work to get my phone to where it is now and I don’t want to rebuild it if possible. Seems like that first step of moving to 3.0 will remove all jailbroken apps. Thanks!
yes, you will need to start new since moving to 3.0 will wipe out your previous jailbreak configuration. As far as apps some of them may not work any way.

I believe you don’t have to unzip, you just change the file extention to .ipsw.
Try that, also read the post above for the location of your ipsw file, and make sure you turn on hidden files/folders.
Mine is stuck at “waiting for reboot” and nothing happens. The phone is just black and wont reboot…
if you press power button, iPhone will turn on. Make sure to use the latest version of redsn0w 0.7.2, also try different computer.

Some people are getting confused when redsn0w takes off while still holding down the last power button for 30 sc….DO NOT LET GO of the power buttom when redsn0w takes of, you still have to hold the [power down for the full 30sc…..don not let off after only ten sec when redsn0w takes off!!!!!! hold the whole 30 sec….even when the phone is changing screen colors….and it says dfu procsess begun….wait 30 sec.
Then you will have timed the DFU mode correct. I just figured it out!!! I am jailbroken!!!!! HAHAHAHAH!!!! Suck it Apple!
What am i doing wrong? I used the links to download the packages, i ran redsn0w. When it asks for IPSW it doesn’t find the zip file i downloaded above? I am running vista

Ahaa solved!
The file was saving as .zip not .ipsw
Worked second time fine. redsnow stopped working halfway through the first time. A simple backtrack to the beginning as stated works fine.

I followed the instructions and jailbroke/unlocked my 2g iPhone. Some people arent able to call or text me. Tells them that its not possible to connect this call. Some people are able to call but the majority arnt able to.
This is pretty worrying for me. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
this is the first time we hear problem like that with 2G phone. Worst case you will be able to roll back to prior version and wait until things stabilize.
hi, i try as the tutorial, but mine is stuck at “waiting for reboot” and nothing happens. when i cancel and try again, it finish very fast and the iphone is in a black screen for white sometime. if i disconnect it return to factory setup.

it didnt work…i kept holding the home button for 30 seconds…and it didnt reboot…i tried holding it for more than 30 seconds…it still doesnt reboot…it may not be compatible with Vista…
try different PC, but it’s related to the fact that phone is not in DFU mode
if everything fails, try getting your phone into DFU mode using quickpwn and then connect to PC and start redsn0w

Hi, I have never jailbroken my iphone 3G (now on 3.0) and I have a bunch of apps installed on my ipHone … after this jailbreak what will happen to my existing apps and data? will they still be there or will I need to reinstall everything.
Ok so I tried to jailbreak this about 15 times, no luck. I’ve jailbroke my phone with 2.2.1 in the past with no issues, so I have exp. (currently on OS 3.0) I followed the instructions exactly with jailbreaking 3.0. The redsn0w software on the PC says it’s finished and when I look at the phone, it flashed white a few times, after I get a blank black screen and the phone is on, and thats it just hangs forever. For some reason I can’t get the DFU to come up. i’m using Vista 64 could that be the problem?
Figure it out! It’s Vista 64 bit! May want to put a warning on your insturctions to use a 32bit os or XP. Thanks everyone!
Sorry to say but Vista 64 is your problem, find XP system and you will be all set in no time.

So i just installed the jailbreak this morning.. It worked just fine and installed a bunch of programs. Now it won’t startup past the apply logo. Please help. I’ve tried re-installing several times and same deal. My next step is to restore the backup.

just did the 3.0 update , AND the jailbreak, im still waiting for the filesystem to load.. (cant wait) but this has been ULTRA simple and easy to go wit, maybe not as simple as doing the 2.2.1 on PC , but its still pretty breezy god love that little pineapple.! it looks as tho most bugs are fixed for 32 bit, DONE! fully updated, this is just an update to show most things are pretty much working and ready to go

next time try to records what program you are installing, looks like the predicament you are in because of installed programs. When you do not know what broke your set-up it is better to restore and then trace back,
My 2G iphone went into no service and i could not call out or text. any suggestions?

did you unlock your phone, was it unlocked before. go to settings and report baseband version.

I can’t install my cracked apps, don’t know if it’s because they are for 2.2 or because iTunes knows whats up… all my free apps went on no problem. Just an FYI.

No i did not try to unlock it and it was not unlocked before i tried it. Under settings it shows version 3.0 (7A341).
I tried a jailbreak and now my iphone 3g is stuck on he downloading jailbreak data screen.
The only problem I had was when I plugged in my phone to turn it off it locked up and gave me the apple symbol. I tried turning it off again then pluging it in and my computer didn’t recognize it.
Could this be part of my problem?

That’s what my phone did. I had to restore back to factory settings and then Recover the back up. I have not tried to do the jailbreak again. I have asked around about what I need to do and just waiting on a response.
Everything is good after jailbreaking. Only issue I have is when I try to install updates from Cydia, it seems that there is some error messages appearing in Cydia and nothing is installed from Cydia
found the problem…don’t install Icy during jailbreak..all okay now.

I love it, really. No issues the second time. Just a word to anyone who has an APN blocker (so that you don’t use data) Make SURE you wait a moment or your wifi to start back up when using cydia.

OK, I’m on a Mac. When I download the file it comes down as “iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw.zip” I tried taking the .zip off the end and redsnow says it’s unable to recognize the file. When I tried unzipping it I get a directory called iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw but redsnow is looking for a file. Any hints?

I’m having an issue where the redsnow program crashes after the point where you follow the timings to move in to DFU mode. It only crashes when the phone is in DFU mode as when following the timings vista throws up an error saying redsnow.ex has stopped working. I have also put the phone in to DFU mode by itself and then connected it and the same error happens at the same point. Does anyone have a fix for this? My only other available PC is a XP 64bit and itunes and the phone do not work correctly with it…
sorry, but it is Vista 64 bit issue, read comments above. Some users found workarounds, but for most part it does not work on 64 bit

yes, you can – you have to follow this guide.
Followed instructions above (I now see other sites recommend to update to 3.0 in itunes first, then Shift & Restore to load custom IPSW). I have a 16GB iphone 3G & am just getting a cartoon of Steve Jobs saying hello in Russian. Phone is not being recognised by itunes and no combination of button holding as described seems to work. Disaster! Anyone get past this? Thanks
verify that you downloaded unchanged legitimate ipsw file before restore.
links provided in this guide is for the step where before applying redsnow you update to clean 3.0.
Based on info you provided, it is possible you have used the wrong file to restore. In any case, not a problem. Get your phone into DFU mode and do a restore with proper file, this way you will recover to the original state.
worked great, my only tip is from my problems jailbreaking 2.2.1. and that is back up your phone, then restore to factory settings, getting rid of all your apps before u jailbreak, when i had 11 pages of apps, wouldn’t work, with only original apps that come with phone, easy as pie. just be exact getting into dfu mode. great job guys. quality work.
The link above to the .ipsw file is a .zip file which does not contain anything useful. After Google searching, I downloaded the .ipsw file from somewhere else and was then able to accomplish this.

definately noticing lost signal strength after jailbreak. Don’t think it could be a coincidence. if i restart my phone, signal strength goes to max for a minute. then loses 2 bars. anyone else???
well i have attempted to jailbreak mine 2x now it says its complete even gives me the app to go in and download/install programs but when i go to winterboard to apply them nothing happens i’ve restored my device several times now and have lost several applications in the process even after i have backed them up and restored the back up… as of right now i have given up try to jailbreak again…
i cant seem to find the software using redsn0w, i unzipped all the files from the iPhone restore folder but when i browse on resn0w it doesnt find it. can someone help me PLZ??

After the upgrade it takes hours to restore … but mine is only a 8GB version … hope it eventually works out
i keep getting a “couldn’t configure pre-depend dpkg for ncurses, probably a dependency cycle.” error message and it restarts. any ideads? other than that it did load and if i can get past this it should work
i just restored the phone went back thru the steps and this time i did NOT instal “icy” with cydia…it works great! installed with windows vista ultimate 32bit..it was about as quick and easy as the qwkpwn update i did the first time. thanks for program great job!

hmm really? im running vista 32 bit and haveing the black screen pormlem as the other person above *growls* guess ill go back to xp XD since thats what i used to JB my 2.2.1 btw i have a 3G phone.
I performed a jailbreak and it worked. Then I proceeded to unlocking the phone. It worked fine until I tried using the dial pad. The dial pad only allows me to press one number and if I press another number, then it deletes the prior number. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

It was jailbroken on 2.1 (someone else did it for me) and I’ve never upgraded it since. I followed exactly the timing, I didn’t install Icy (just Cydia), I’m using XP, I’ve retried for more than 5 times now, and it just won’t jailbreak the phone on 3.0. Any other workarounds? I really do not want to restore to factory default if I don’t need to. That’s usually a big pain for me. I can give you my email if you are willing to help me offline. Appreciate your kindness!

HI, i just bought a 3G Iphone, and i want to use a different SIM card than the one i am supposed to.
So,
1) Should I jailbreak my Iphone b4 putting the sim card in?
or
2) Should i put the Sim card in then Jailbreak it?

I’ve tried jailbreaking my iPhone 3G with redsnow 0.8 twice, but both times the same thing happened. After I try entering DFU mode (where I have to hold ‘power’ for 3 seconds, then ‘home’ for 10, ect), the phone practically bricks itself. The redsnow installer screen doesn’t move from ‘Waiting For Reboot’, even though I waited for about twenty minutes. Then, if I try to turn the phone on, it doesn’t turn on! I have to get into iTunes and restore the whole thing from my backup which takes a good 3 hours!
Am I doing something wrong? Should I just use redsnow .7 like you guys? It says to pay strict attention to the timing of the button presses, and I did…but…it still ends up forcing me to restore…

Yes, DFU is the most important. People recommend holding home button even if you have been moved to the next scree.
Also, iPhone is not briked. You just have to turn it back on, try holding home and power for a bit and then power again. You do not need to do restore every time you fail DFU part.
so if i do this itll still connect to att? last time i tried this i used quickpwn and it wouldnt connect and i had to reset it and get all my numbers back an it sucked
I finally was able to jailbreak my iphone 3G. It’s the issue with vmware. I was using xp to do the jailbreak, but host was vista. So I guess that caused some problem. But the good thing is… I’m jailbroken! Thanks for the great work…

Where should i look for the IPSW for the current firmware? I do not have any file on my comp named iPhone 3 or anything like that. What are the possible default locations for this firmware?
I can’t get into the DFU mode. I’m trying in Mac 10.5.6. I even tried with 10.5.5 USB drivers because 10.5.6 they started trying to make it difficult to manually get into DFU mode. I’m holding the buttons down according to the timers. How long should it take to get into the DFU mode after the last 30 sec home key hold without the power key? Does it take many minutes? I’ve waited 8 or 9 minutes and given up. What is the timeout where you’re not going to make it? Is it easier to get into DFU mode with windows XP? I could give that a try. I welcome any suggestions.

I used purplera1n for my 3gs and it was a cinch!!! As for my 3g 3.0 redsn0w FINALLY popped that one. Took FOREVER though. Between my mac and my pc, finally had to use the pc. It was a PAIN BUT it worked!!

I am completely new to the whole jailbreaking scene and to the iPhone for that matter, but I am a technophile who demands that my tech do what I say and not have restrictions so lately I have been toying with the idea of jailbreaking my iPhone. The thing is I have a 3G with OS 3.0 on it and I have a service plan through AT&T here in the US. I have purchased apps from the App Store and have music stored on it and photos and the like. I was wondering that if I choose to jailbreak my phone is it going to still be able to use those apps that I bought, is it going to screw up my service with AT&T. Thanks to whomever can give me a bit of insight into this.
You will be bale to use your existing apps and it will not effect ATT services
Just keep in mind, all that use jailbreaking at y our own risk.

People who had a problem getting it into DFU mode, if you are waiting for it to turn back on and does nothing just press and hold down power and home button together untill you see the apple logo then let go of the power button and keep holding down the home button. It will get into DFU mode
Your phone is probably locked to one service provider. Use ultrasnow to unlock it.
Attempted Jailbreaking three times this evening. On each try, during the timed portion, Redsnow would change screens after only 10 seconds (at the last step). I continued holding the home button and also tried letting go when it changed, to no avail. Am I doing something wrong?
Try getting into DFU mode on your own and then follow redsn0w process
ok well i got the firm ware file and redsnow 8.0 an when i browse to choose the firmware file it reads it then says unable to recognize specified IPSW
how can i solve this problem? Iam i missing something?
it’s probably was downloaded with .zip extension.
make sure that extension is .ipsw
I’m just curious about what happens once you do this. what happens to your service, and will your service provider have to rehook you up? Also how much is voided out of your contract if anything does go wrong with the phone?

do not unzip, you just have to change the zip extention to ipsw

I cant make calls after the jailbreak. I have Iphone 2G version 3.0. I jailbroke using 0.8 redsnow. The jailbreak went fine and work completely but Im not able to make any calls. Can someone help out is there a fix without having to restore. Thanks

iTune version 8.2.1.6
In the first go, I had an error when running redsn0w while I was holding the “Home” button down – while the screen is showing “jailbreaking” (I think ‘coz I chose both icy and cydia).
Second run worked fine – with only Cydia chosen.
But somehow I cannot use the internet. I’m connecting through my Wifi. I can see the blue Wifi icon on the top of the screen – so it is definitely connecting! Everytime when I tried to open a website, I can see the little “loading” icon next to the Wifi icon for ~1-2 sec before it disappears. A “no internet connection” warning also pops up for ~1sec before closing by itself (without me pressing on the “OK” button)
Did I miss sth out or I’ll have to restore and JB again?

It does work with Vista. You need to right click and modify properties for the file redsnow.exe
Check mark run as administrator and check mark compatibility to windows 95. I hear xp2 compatibility has worked for others.

i had problems with dfu and got stuck at waiting for reboot also. i held the power and home buttons (since i had a black screen) until the apple logo. no changes so i started redsnow again, and got ready for dfu mode. this time i basically held the power button, then both buttons until the white flash and the apple disappears, then held that home button past the multiple stages of reeboots until i saw that pineapple installing the jailbreak and redsnow said DONE! just rebooted now and.. turn page.. yes! Cydia! used some school laptop on xp. just downloaded the ipsw from http://www.ismashphone.com/2009/06/download-pwnagetool-to-jailbreak-iphone-30.html utorrent, redsnow and itunes. great success ;D

I NEED HELP! i have an iphone 3g that i recently jailbroke with PwnageTool 3.0 but none of my apps would open. so, i then tried to jailbreak the phone with redsn0w on a pc but now no iphone core app (settings, phone, ipod, etc.) appear on the phone. i go thrugh the entire jailbreak process without any issues. i’ve tried to jailbreak the phone on both xp and vista over 10 times and i still can’t fix the issue. can anyone help?
works like a charm, put it on the 3G S. luckily my phone entered DFU mode automatically. great job on both the software and the instructions!!

I was unsure about jailbreaking my phone in fears of bricking it but after reading around I found it to be relatively easy process if you follow the instructions. So I got everything I needed and proceeded to jailbreak my phone and behold it took maybe 4 minutes since I was already using the 3.0 software. Everything was still on the phone after it was jailbroken so I did not have to have everything put back on the phone which was a nice touch. Only problem I am having now is that I cannot sync any apps/games to my iphone without error 0xE8008001.

hi, my 2G iphone is firmware 1.1x and successfully upgrade / restore to 3.0 via above method. however i did not install ultrasn0w yet.
during the jailbreak there is a de-activated sim card in iphone. after jailbreak i use non-USA active line sim card but it did not detect any service. so i install ultrasn0w. however, it still did not get line but i manage to see other information of the service provider. it only show “Searching…” instead. the sim card has pin lock, will this affect unlocking the phone for any countries sim card line? pleass advice asap

1) 1st jb, successfully done, only install cydia, no ultrasn0w. install any apps, no problm, only iTunes say not supported in my country.
later, i want to renew all setting in iphone, went to Setting and did reset for Network, follow by reset for All Setting and finally Erase All Contents and Settings.
2) PROBLEM comes after final Erase All process. the phone tried to reboot after about 1hr erasing. but during reboot, it show Apple logo + spiral-in-progress symbol, all freeze and not able to go next process. From here it is stuck and keeps rebooting into this stage. Even the iTunes reported error message with iphone and got the Blue Screen of death on my laptop running Vista-32bit. First time got this blue screen since using Vista.
3) no choice, have to reboot my laptop and i use another usb port. manage to use iTune to restore the iphone and reinstall the jb. this time i install ultrasn0w after jailbreak when i see no service, signal. i also install yellowsn0w (confused at that time which unlock work). From this point the condition remains as my first comment mentioned very above on 30-jul-10.56pm.

i try my own experience and it seem the type of SIM Card will not work properly. I cannot conclude is it unlock apps in iphone contribute anything here. Because i have some old de-activated SIM cards and use one of it to try. this old card, i can see “my own number” in iphone however not with the 3G SIM card. But the 3G SIM card is the activated card working properly in my other brand 3G phone.
please verify and advice asap.
I jailbroke my 3gs with OS 3.0 yesterday and it went great. Now today cydia is gone but all the apps and the theme I downloaded are still working. Do I need to restore and jailbreak my phone again to get cydia back or can I just reinstall it through openssh or netatalk?

Try to trace your steps as far as why Cydia was removed.
If you can install it via openssh, but the main issue here is to understand why and how it was removed.

1) b4 uninstalling ultrasn0w, i tried with a few SIM Cards and not consistent infomration is updated. but still all no service, no signal received. i do noticed, under Settings – General – About section, the Carrier and ICCID information are not updated from different SIM Cards. it seem the SIM Cards are not read everytime even after Power-Off to restart the iphone.
2) after uninstalling ultrasn0w, the signal bar indicator only shows zero/flat signals, no “Searching…” indicator anymore. however same thing, under Settings – General – About section, carrier and ICCID information are not updated. it seem to show the last available information only if current SIM Card reading fails.
please advice or verify. need your expertise.
3) all these SIM Cards i tested, not all the phone no. can be display under Settings – Phone – My Number. Those can display the no., when i tried to change and save them, a message show “Phone number could not be saved.”
Also for SIM PIN setting, it cannot be changed too.
I am trying to jailbreak on Mac OS X 10.5.7, iPhone 3G (OS 3.0), redsn0w 0.8. Getting stuck, black screen on iPhone for minutes, redsn0w waiting for reboot’ for minutes and minutes.
When I then cancel, restart of the iPhone is quite difficult, I tried pressing power for seconds, power+home (resetting) etc. After a few times iPhone reboots. This makes me think that iPhone is not just ‘off’ but it might be in some other (DFU?) mode.
I am not sure how long step 3 would *normally* take; how long will redsn0w ‘Wait for reboot’?
I should add, after the DFU entering page (holding the buttons for prescribed times), I see the ‘Uploading second stage’ page flashing by in a split second (can barely read it and progress bar fills up immediately) after which redsn0w goes immediately to the ‘Waiting for reboot’ page. Is this normal?
I tried 10 time now, I did hold the home button for 30 seconds even when redsn0w goes to next page.
I tried everything: redsn0w on Windows XP via Parallels, restore via iTunes… nothing worked.

When stuck in ‘Waiting for reboot’, simply unplug the USB cable from your iPhone (screen will light up white) and plug it in again. Presto! Cost me a day of my time and a year of my life, but happily jailbroken now. WHOOOHEEE!
Do you guys know how long you should be on the screen that says “Waiting for reboot”? It passed the screen that says “Uploading second stage” but now stuck on the reboot screen. Its been 10 minutes, is that a sign of an error on my part with entering DFU mode?
THE PROBLEM IS VISTA! i have been tryin this all day on vista x86 and it wouldnt work. it would go to the bit where it says press finish but then nothing would show on the phone. i knew for a fact i was getting it in dfu mode but i wasnt sure what the problem was. 10 minuites ago i decided to try my mums XP laptop and it works fine. Jailbroke my iphone 3g using redsn0w, worked fine but i get ‘no service’ on o2. Tried restoring with the latest itunes, but half way through the restore I get error 1015. So I cant restore to any previous versions, tried on 2 different computers, different cables etc. Any ideas on the possible issue?
Looks like you are not getting into DFU mode properly.

I installed version 3.0 (7A341) first.
I used redsn0w 0.8 for windows, checked “unlock”, specified bl39.bin and bl46.bin, and completed the jailbreak.
iphone said it was unlocking.

All I needed to do was to reset network settings, and now wifi works.
I followed all the instructions and all things went ok. I unlocked the phone, but the problem now is that it says “no service” and I can’t make or receive calls. I have read many things on many forums today and I’m a little bit confused in what should I do. Should I install any Dialer software or what? OK, my redsn0w was stuck in reboot screen for a while so I unplugged and quickly re-plugged the USB cord to the iPhone and the reboot was successful. Looking forward to installing apps with Cydia.

When is 3.1.xx coming out? How will jailbreak affect this? I am waiting as I am weary… Rocking 3GS with 3.0.1 currently and don’t wanna mess it up. Note: I did not mess up version numbers; 3.0.1 was released for some small vulnerability fixes but 3.1.xx is supposed to address features, options, and battery life.

I bought a 3gs in US , unlock and jailbroken ….everything is fine while I’ve been there (including Cydia) , but when I came to my country , Cydia didn’t work anymore (there’s the icon but nothing is loading), and my big surprise was that when I connected the Iphone with the Itunes , the Itunes didn’t recognize the Sim card . I found a solution on macrumours, when it gets to the waiting for reboot, unplug usb cable and plug it back in, screen should turn white and jailbreaking continues.

i did everything the way it is supposed to everything works fine. it goes through downloading jailbreak data and reboots… There is no cydia or icy on my phone. What do i need to do to be able to get one of these programs on my phone?
That means it goes through the installation process and there seems to be no change… meaning it is still locked? or something any sugestions?

You should be able to browse and install apps.
make sure not to upgrade to another firmware in iTunes unless you know what you are doing.

You can unlock 2G on 3.1, so no need to restore to 3.0

Hello, this is not really a redsn0w question, though i have tons of those… :/
but my iphone was previously jailbroken and i had some of my apps docked into the springboard and off my main screens and now that i am getting ready to re-jailbreak for 3.1.2, they have disappeared along with the expected SB. help?
also redsn0w can not recognize the firmware that i got off this site (3.1.2) ughh been at this for two hours

ow long does the “please wait while your device is being jailbroken/ waiting for reboot” last I keep my phone at this stage for 1 hour and it has not did anything and I do not see a staus bar showing progress. did i do something wrong
i got a finish complete twice and each time when i turn my i phone on all i get is a usb sign with a arrow pointing to itunes on my i phone. what did i do wrong

It seems to have worked, but it never asked me to enter DFU code. It just went straight to jailbreaking and uploading… It says its finished but I dont see a difference in the phone…. HELP!

I am new and very nervous when it comes to tinkering with my iphone so please bear with me. I have an iphone 2G software version 3.1.2 and the baseband I believe is 04.05.04_G. Can I unlock and jailbreak my phone with the steps listed above? Thanks for the help.
PLEASE HELP! I am trying to jailbreak my iphone 2G. The software version is 3.1.2 and the baseband I believe is 04.05.04_G. Everything was okay until I tired to enter DFU mode. I have tried about six times and six times I got the same result. Can anyone give some direction on how to fix this? Thanks so much.
I’m not sure if I am getting into DFU mode or not. How do you know when you have gotten to DFU mode?? I am using redsnow on a Mac and I do all the steps it tells me to, but after doing the steps VERBATIM to get to DFU mode it gets stuck on “waiting for reboot”, I read that to fix that quickly unplug and plug in the USB cord, so I do that, then it starts working again, but now it’s stuck on a screen (on my iPhone) with a little icon of a hard drive and an arrow, and it says “Downloading Jailbreak Data…” with the little thinking wheel thing below that.
It doesn’t do anything else. I feel like I am really close but don’t know what else to do.
I jailbrok 3GS with purplerain and it works great… must try if u own the new 3GS with the latest upgrade from Itunes..
I went through with the process and it says done and jailbroken, but then i let the iphone 2g with 3.0 sit for at least half an hour, and all the happens on the iphone screen is a blank blue screen. What should i do from here?

Make sure to reset your network setting, reboot your phone.
trying this with 3.1.2. and i’m having no success with redsnow 0.9.2. its telling me to plug in device in recovery mode but i’m not sure what that is
cydia didnt install correcty on my iphone 2g.. i opened the app, but it just shows a black screen, then closes cydia.. please help!
hi i did everything just like it said and my phone (iphone 2g) is stuck on the the screen that says downloading jailbreak data…. with the downloading sym at the bottom just going round and round. its been an hour and still nothing wat do i do oh wait now it says to connect to itunes and it wants me to restore my phone. so dose this mean it didnt work or do i just restore it and try again please help. my email is soliz53@yahoo.com
