1. iPhone 3.0 firmware
2. iPhone 3G or 3GS
Open Cydia and click Manage, then Click Sources, then Edit (right top corner),
Click Add (Left top corner)
Enter unltrasn0w repository http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com
Click Search and search for ultrasn0w. It will show-up in your results since you add ultrasn0w repo.
Click on the search results and you will get to package installation.
Click Install (right top corner), Click Confirm (right top corner)
Ultrasn0w is installed.
Reboot your iPhone: Hold Power Button until you get "slide to power off"
Turn your iPhone off and then back on.
TMOBILE users, make sure to disable 3G before using ultrasn0w.

bit of a problem,I have a foreign sim card not listed but i know the setting for 3G. I have the Iphone 3G OS 3 (7A341) modem Firmware 04.26.08 Jailbreak with redsn0w. No carrier. At the moment I do not have free WiFi but can pay for WiFi in a zone. Would ultrasn0w unlock through Icy / Cydia if I follow the above instructions with this foreign sim card (has no bars for signal and no carrier) using QTel (Qatar) Would it work and unlock the phone? yes, ultrasn0w should unlock your phone. Please try and report back so other will also know.
Have a problem. Did the jailbreak and unlock. Took a bit of work, but it’s working here in the Congo (yeah!). But since doing the jailbreak, I can’t sync with iTunes. When I plug the iPhone in, it freezes iTunes (even after unplugging iPHone, iTunes remains frozen). oddly, photos sync with Picasa just fine.
When I did redsn0w, I installed both Cydia and icy. Used Cydia to install ultrasn0w.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Hi Tracy, try the following steps:
1. Launch iTunes
2. Select “Deauthorize Computer” from the Store menu
3. Enter your iTunes Store Account ID and Password, then click the Deauthorize button
4. Next, choose “Authorize Computer” from the Store menu
5. Enter your iTunes Store Account ID and Password, then click the Authorize button

Just performed jailbreak and unlock on iphone 3g… everything was working fine until i downloaded an application in cydia, dtunes i believe??? but since then i have not been able to open cydia… will not load or it keeps crashing… any solution to fix this problem… thank you…
sorry, never tried dtunes. May be it’s not compatible with 3.0 and this is why things are broke. It may be easier to restore and jailbreak again

yes, unlocks modem firmware since it’s what y ou get when you go to 3.0.
Unlock and jailbreak works, minority report problem with stability of the phone.
So you depend on unlock and you are in a mission critical mode, you may better wait for things to become more stable – just in case since you would not be able to roll back to older baseband.

What method did you use to jailbreak. Did you use ipsw file created on mac, if yes you need to make sure that the file was created without activate option on. Assume that you are on 3G

I performed a jailbreak and it worked. Then I proceeded to unlock the phone. Everything worked fine until the last step of powering off the phone and then powering on the phone. A message keeps appearing saying that there is no SIM card even though I have already inserted my Tmobile SIM. Any suggestions or tips on how I can fix this?
Also, it switches from saying “searching” to “no service”.

2G phone is hacked to death. Yes, you can use it on ATT. But YOU do not use ultrasn0w to unlock 2G. Unlocking happens during redsn0w jailbreak, you need to make sure that you have proper baseband files in redsn0w directory.

Ok. I 3G. A friend has 2G phone and wants to sell it to get a 3GS. I already jailbroke (3.0) his 2G for him. He wants to try to sell it on ebay and thinks he will get more money for it if it is also unlocked. I don’t know the process for 2G unlocking as I have the 3G. He wants to unlock, but continue to be able to use it on ATT&T until it sells on ebay. I hear so much about don’t upgrade to this or that baseband blah blah. This phone was updated all the way to 3.0 before it was ever jailbroke. Can it be unlocked?
yes, 2G can be unlocked even if it was upgraded to 3.0 because baseband for 2G have not changed.

update? i just did the jailbreak using the pwnage tool on mac. I’ve had to redo it several times already, limited to no internet/wifi access. once i try and open cydia and type in ultrasn0w i start to get several error 2 remarks

When Cydia is “Updating Source” there’s an error message of “http://repo666.ultrasnOw.com Bad URL” and from there, it goes back to the Manage Source list. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
I unlocked successfully, followed everything successfully, and didn’t get any errors. On restart I removed the AT&T sim card and put in another company’s, and am still getting a SIM Locked error. Help!

I’m a total iPhone noob. I just bought a 3Gs in the U.S. and have not activated it yet with AT&T. I need to use it in Indonesia with their carrier, Telkomsel. I have several questions that I hope some of you knowledgeable iPhone krackers can help with:
1) What is the difference between jailbreaking and unlocking? Am I correct in thinking that jailbreaking is to allow non-AppStore apps to work and that unlocking is to allow iPhone to work with non AT&T carriers?
2) Can I unlock for other carrier use without jailbreaking? I want to use my 3GS in Indonesia with Telkomsel, but I’d like to be able to access the AppStore and use my 3Gs with iTunes. Is that possible?
3) I see retail software like unlock-the-iphone.com that promises a flawless, one-click unlocking process that is guaranteed to work with carriers in Indonesia. Is their core software built on something like ultrasn0w with a simpler interface?
HERE’S MY MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION:

Hi, I just jailbroke and unlocked my iPhone 3Gs, and it’s working fine except for one “minor” glitch…My network is failing, it show full bars, but when people are trying to call me, it says that I am unreachable, and when I put the iPhone next to speakers it CONSTANTLY emits a signal, as if someone is constantly is trying to reach me, if I call someone, it works, and someone can call me in the next few minutes, and after that, again the same, unreachable, what’s the problem? please help (and I am sure that it’s the iPhone 3Gs, because when I put the same SIM into my old 2G, it works just fine…I have 3.0 FW on both of them…)

By accident, I updated my 3G Iphone to 3.1 so it was locked. Luckily, its has now been jailbroken. However, now the phone is still not able to regonize my SIM (its still locked) and I cannot make it work. When I used Pwnage Tool, I was not able to uncheck “enable baseband update” – is that the reason? My iphone is now turned on again and going through the guide to unclock the iphone did go well.

Dev team just released jailbreak and unlock for 3gs for 3.1, but one of the requirements you have to be on jailbroken 3.0. If you updated to 3.1, you’re screwed for now.

Do I need to wait for new hack to be released? or is it already available? If I install pkg from http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com will I be able to unlock? Please guide me.
Guys I have tried all this and it does not unlock the new baseband. To get your mobile features back just uninstall the ultrasn0w app using Cydia and you have your phone back.

Okay Raheel, first you never want to accept a custom ipsw from anyone. you make your own. When you plug your phone into itunes and it asks if you want to “Download and Upgrade” “Download Only” or “Ignore” select “Download Only”. The file will be saved in user\library\itunes\iphone software upgrades on mac, and in C:\User\Documents\iTunes\iPhone Software upgrades on PC. That gives you the Official 3.1.2 ipsw. Then you go here http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/211802082/pwnage-pie to the Dev Team site and read the instructions and make sure you understand it, then at the bottom are links to download Pwnage tool 3.1.4 which will make a Custom IPSW for you out of the file you downloaded from iTunes, and then help you JB your iPhone with 3.1.2.
BEFORE DOING ANYTHING Sync your phone, pictures, contacts, music purchases, apps, EVERYTHING so you don’t lose it because this will wipe your phone.
Let Pwnage tool do it’s work (takes 15ish Mins) then connect to itunes when the connect to itunes logo shows up on your phone. allow it to activate (you’ll need an internet connection) and iTunes should ask if you want to restore from a backup of your phone. Depending on how much is on it, that can take awhile, but everything should be on there. you’ll probably see Icy as well as Cydia, but if you have SBSettings (if not GET IT through cydia) you can hide icons like Icy. you will have to download ultrasn0w through cydia for the unlock, but otherwise, that should do the trick. any questions you should consult the dev team comments on the Pwnage tool site above. Happy Jailbreaking!
