We have been waiting for this app for a looong time. Today, almost surprisingly, the official new Sirius XM iPhone application dubbed "Sirius XM Premium Online" was released for free in the iTunes App Store. While the app is free to download, it requires a $2.99/month premium online subscription added to your current Sirius XM subscription. The problem is, there's no Howard Stern Show.
I couldn't believe it. More than three-quarters of Sirius subscribers are subscribers because of Howard Stern. The annual $36 dollar "premium online package" is certainly not worth it unless it gives you The Stern Show on the go, as the app was intended to do.
We've discussed how to listen to Sirius XM on the iPhone in the past, and since this app doesn't offer Howard, you'll have to go back to that method.
There's also a promotion underway now that allows non-subscribers to get a free 7 day trial of Sirius XM.
Read on for a more detailed analysis of the app.
- Access to 120 Sirius XM channels (No Howard 100, Howard 101)
- Instant links to purchase songs through iTunes
- Tag your favorite songs so you remember what they're called
- Save favorite channels for easy access
- Look at what's on other channels while still listening to your channel

There are rumors going around that Howard 100 and Howard 101 are missing because Howard Stern wanted extra money, and Sirius (who is broke as a joke) wasn't having it. These rumors, however, have absolutely no backbone, and there is no logical reason for Howard to give Sirius problems about offering his show over the iPhone.
The reality is, Sirius is probably cooking up a plan to strike the App Store with either a "Howard Stern Show specific" application, or some other pricing system to get Stern on the iPhone. Don't lose hope.
And hey, in the meanwhile, use PocketTunes.
