Well, it's official: Installer is now, to quote Laurence Tierney in RESERVOIR DOGS, "deader than Dillinger."
Ripdev, who have been maintaining Installer since version 3.0, announced that the current Installer repositories would remain available until July 1 of this year.
Historically, Installer was the first easy way to load jailbroken apps onto your iPhone, pre-dating even the App Store. However, the popularity of cross-town rival Cydia has increased in the past few months, to the point where Ripdev opted to throw in the towel.
And in a case of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em:" Ripdev still offers Icy, an iPhone app installer that plugs into Cydia directories.
