The iPhone 3G S, boasting impressive sales even during this recession, has been a hot topic in the tech world this week. As if Apple had it all planned out, the company has hit the media like a hurricane, stretching it’s Appley tentacles into all facets of the web.
From Steve Jobs’ approaching return, incredibly impressing iPhone 3G S sales over the weekend, a $30 iTunes gift certificate to iPhone 3G S customers for a troubled AT&T activation, to a weird noise the device makes, this article will summarize everything new in the world of the iPhone 3G S.
Steve Jobs is Returning at the End of June
Our favorite CEO took a medical leave of absence almost 6 months ago in order to deal with a hormone imbalance. Well, those 6 months are coming to an end, and Steve Jobs is scheduled to return to the company soon. According to the WSJ, Steve Jobs had a liver transplant two months ago. Prior to his leave, Jobs wrote: “The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I’ve already begun treatment. But, just like I didn’t lose this much weight and body mass in a week or a month, my doctors expect it will take me until late this spring to regain it.” Jobs is a crucial character in modern technology, and hopefully his insight will lead to an extraordinary 4th generation iPhone.
iPhone 3G S is Selling as Fast as iPhone 3G
The Apple iPhone 3G S has sold 1 million units in 3 days, exactly the same rate at which the iPhone 3G reached 1 million sales. The original iPhone, on the other hand, took 74 days to reach the million unit mark. Whether or not the iPhone 3G S will continue to succeed is yet to be seen, but it’s sure off to a good start.
Just take a look at the lines the 3G S drew outside of Apple stores (which, by the way, weren’t necessary at all):

Apple Issues $30 Apology iTunes Gift Card for Failed AT&T Activation
Many iPhone 3G S customers ended up without phones for two to
three days while Apple and AT&T had to sort out the activation process. In return, Apple awarded all individuals affected by the activation failure with a $30 iTunes gift card. While $30 is nice, being phone less for three days sucks. Especially when you expect to walk out of the store with a fancy new 3G S.
Here’s the email Apple sent out:
Dear Apple Customer,
Thank you for your recent Apple Store order. We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience caused by the delay in your iPhone activation.
We are still resolving the issue that was encountered while activating your iPhone with AT&T. Unfortunately, due to system issues and continued high activation volumes, this could take us up to an additional 48 hours to complete.
On Monday, you’ll receive an email from Apple with an iTunes Store credit in the amount of $30. We hope you will enjoy this gift and accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience this delay has caused.
Thank you for choosing Apple.

iPhone 3G S Emitting Weird 15KHz Noises
The title says it all. Users are reporting that their shiny new devices are emitting high-frequency noises. These noises are triggered right after the phone finishes playing the SMS alert or the unlock sound. This noise, while often only heard by the younger iPhone users, is surely going to disappear soon with the release of an update.
