Growl is a pretty famous application for Macs that basically notifies the user whenever anything happens. There's a whole lot of customization, so you can set it up so it notifies you of the things you're most interested in. For example, you can get a notification when a torrent finishes downloading, you get an email, you get an IM, you get a Tweet, and more. Prowl uses the iPhone 3.0's new push notification function to send each message directly to your iPhone. It's very useful and really gives Push a purpose. Note: There will be a Windows client of Growl soon, but not yet.

Ever wonder how you can speed up your subway ride? These guys have. This app tells you exactly where to stand on the subway to arrive exactly at your exit, hence not having to stand in line to walk to another train car. Exit Strategy NYC lets you view the layout of a subway station, and plans where you need to stand based on your destination. As the name suggests, it's only for New York (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Bronx.) With this app you'll be able to beat those dense crowds (sorta.)

The point of this app is simple – it tells you when to go pee during a movie so you don't miss an important plot point. It might seem a little funny, but at the cost of movies (about $10 a ticket) it's really not worth risking missing an important piece of the film. And sometimes you just can't hold it in. It's worth the buck.

This application really enhances your book browsing and shopping experience. The most exciting feature of this app is that you can search a book, DVD, or music CD by taking a picture of the front cover – very sweet, and it actually works. You can also read reviews, see if things are available, view various lists, make a shopping cart, and find your closest stores. This is a must have app for any semi-frequent book shopper.
