We're all used to cell phone carriers heavily discounting, never mind giving away, handsets to get you to sign up for their service. But this may be the first time a content provider is handing out phones.
Streaming-music mavens Slacker are giving away Blackberry Curves. What's more, they're giving them away for all four major US cell service providers: AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint. You still have to sign up for the multi-year contract and possibly pay an activation charge — but whatever the cost of your flavor of Blackberry (usually around US$50.00 with a plan), Slacker's eating it.
Why? Slacker's celebrating the fact that over one meelion copies of their Slacker for Blackberry app has been downloaded since its debut. (In case you hadn't heard, Slackberry is free, too, for the basic Slacker service.)
So if you're looking to upgrade to a brand new Crackberry, head over to slacker.com/freephone for more info.
