Hot on the heels of the release of iPhone OS 3.1 comes word that the House of Jobs will no longer support firmware restores of versions 3.0 or 3.0.1. So if your jailbroken 3GS goes south on you, you're up the creek sans paddle.
Now, if you still own a 3G (or even a 2G), you should still be able to restore. However, your 3GS will only be able to restore 3.1, which will not only wipe out your jailbreak, but if you did not get an IBSS/IBEC signature before now and you restore, you may never be able to jailbreak again. Pwners who used Cydia to save their TSS, or saved their IBEC during a purplera1n jailbreak, could theoretically restore — but not until someone writes a utility to do just that.
The good news is that the Dev-Team may have already discovered an exploitable flaw in 3.1. But in the interim: sit tight and don't do anything rash.
