Microsoft App-Coding Contest Produces A Winner — For The iPhone

The plan was simple enough: Microsoft's recent Startup Weekend challenged fifteen young programming companies to write a working phone app in 48 hours.  Fourteen of the fifteen groups theoretically knew which side of their bread the butter was on, and focused on Microsoft platforms (like the due-in-a-month Windows Mobile 6.5).  The fifteenth threw caution to the wind and came up with Learn My Name, a contact-memorization exercise — for the iPhone.

Guess who won?

Yep, the iPhone app — which is expected to eventually debut in the App Store for around three bucks American.

At this rate, WinMo might as well start yanking on its necktie and moaning, a la Rodney Dangerfield, that it don't get no respect.
