As both the most post-modern — and tech-savvy — magicians out there, it's almost no surprise that Penn and Teller have finally brought their brand of magic-cum-con-artistry to the iPhone.
The P&T iPhone app — which, pending approval by the App Store, should retail for around US$1.99 — lets the user fool his or her friends into thinking that the user knows Penn and Teller, and that the famed duo will perform a card trick over the phone. (The above link includes videos of the app, and the trick, in action.) It's a variation on their "Mofo the Psychic Gorilla" routine, which older readers might remember from its online BBS incarnation in the late 80's.
Team mouthpiece Penn Jillette was in San Francisco recently for the TechCrunch50 conference, and was shilling the app to potential venture capitalists with his usual brand of bombastic sarcasm; he claimed "Our main beta tester is a stripper in Philadelphia named Heather who does this for everyone who hired her to do a lap dance," adding that Heather's tips are way up. Asked what he was going to do next, Jillette retorted "I’m going to go to Las Vegas and shoot bullets at my partner Teller."
And that's no BS.
