Triumph Of The Creepy Girl: Palm Pre’s “Mindshare” Second Only To iPhone

The Palm Pre's public image is exceeded only by that of the iPhone, thanks to some brilliant design and publicity from the back-from-the-dead Palm — which may or may not include their Windham Hill-meets-THE SHINING television spots with Tamara "Creepy Girl" Hope.

In a report entitled "Signature Smartphones: Gaining Mindshare in Order to Gain Market Share," market research firm Interpret discovered that the Pre — while lagging far behind the iPhone in sales — came closest to the "Mighty i" in consumer perceptions of how smart, hip/cool, and productivity-improving a cell phone could be. 

The study (which also included the Blackberry Curve and Storm and the G1) noted that both the iPhone and the Pre not only had enough of the above factors to justify their higher cost, but also the most even distribution of all three factors compared to the other phones.
