You Are What You Eat: FoodScanner For iPhone Makes Food/Calorie Tracking Easy

Ask any dieter: one of the hardest parts of keeping a food journal is the actual, y’know, “keeping the journal” part.  Between manually jotting down everything you eat and researching/writing down all the nutritional and caloric info, it’s enough to make anyone throw up their hands and break out the Krispy Kremes.

DailyBurn feels your pain.  The diet and fitness tracking web site has just released FoodScanner, which takes the whole food journal nightmare and turns it into an easy-to-use iPhone app.  Use your phone’s camera to snap a food item’s bar code, and you instantly have the nutritional info at your fingertips.  (The app uses Occipital RedLaser technology to scan the bar code image, and works on any camera-equipped iPhone, not just the 3GS.)  No bar code?  Type in the food name to get the same info.  If you’ve already got a DailyBurn account, you can sync FoodScanner to it for advanced nutritional analysis.

Here’s a video of DailyBurn CEO Andy Smith demo’ing the app:
