Engadget is reporting that the Square iPhone Payment System — an app-plus-dongle solution which turns your smartphone into a handheld credit-card reader — may actually be the brainchild of the man who founded Twitter.
Turns out that, since May of this year, Jack Dorsey's been involved in a semi-secret project dubbed "Squirrel" — that turns out to be a Square-style iPhone cash register system.
Furthermore, if you look at the screencap above, the SQUAREUP.COM domain shown belongs to a company based out of San Fransisco (Twitter's home town), and has a contact email address of…wait for it!…billing@paybysquirrel.com.
Coincidence? We say "nuts to that." (Sorry!)
