Today we are on the children's side.
You parents out there may not realize that your iPhone or iPod Touch can be an extremely valuable tool in your child's education. With these games in your Springboard, you may never get your iPhone back from your child without hours and hours of crying. (Note: Just a warning from personal experience)
However, an iPod Touch may just be the perfect gift to satisfy your child's cravings for these learning games!
Toddler Teasers Shapes – Free
This toddler teasers game is one of about ten games of the same type. While this game includes shapes, the others have numbers, letters, animals, and more. There are also two quizzing games that take the games and shake them up a bit, focusing on several of the topics instead of just one.
The game asks the child to touch the object it wants the child to touch. If he or she gets it incorrect, the name of the object that they touched is said and the instructions are repeated. At some point, the child gets a "sticker" which he or she chooses and then touches a special screen to put the sticker on the page.
This really can keep your child busy for hours. It's only drawback is that it doesn't lock the child out of the rest of the phone. By pressing the Home button, the child can easily get into your home screen and do all sorts of stuff to your other app icons.
Adam's Game: Toddler Voice Flash Cards – $0.99
Adam's Game is extremely similar to the Toddler Teasers series, except that it shows real pictures of objects and allows you to customize it with your own pictures and even your own voice.
It allows you to use the iPhone's built-in camera for adding content as well as photos you already have stored on your iPhone or iPhone Touch.
Kidtivities – $0.99
Kidtivities is more geared toward interaction between adults and kids. Do you ever get completely lost for something to do with your child that you haven't done before? Or you just want ideas of fun things to do that are inexpensive or free?
Kidtivities will provide you with 100 fun and education activities that you can do with your child. This is perfect for any parent (or babysitter) that wants some new ideas of things to do with their child.
Dora Saves the Crystal Kingdom: Rainbow Ride – $1.99
The most recent television special for Dora the Explorer is Dora Saves the Crystal Kingdom and it has spawned an iPhone app to go right along with it.
Dora and Boots must gather crystals in order to bring the colors back to the Crystal Kingdom. The game uses the built-in accelerometer to race down a rainbow gathering crystals. There is also a scene that allows your child to color each section of the Crystal Kingdom according to what color crystal has been selected.
While this game is for children a tad bit older than the previous three games mentioned, it's still a fantastic game for pre-schoolers and helps develop the hand-to-eye coordination that they lack at that age.
