Soon there will be a day where we won't be a victim of the battery dead symptom. Atif Shamim, a Carleton engineering student has found a way to prolong the battery life of the iPhones and the BlackBerrys of the world and boy are we grateful.

Shamim's technique involves connecting the antenna with the circuits via a wireless connection between a micro-antenna embedded within the circuits on the chip and in the process getting rid of the wires. According to him, his module consumes 12 times less wire than a wired module.

“This has not been tried before — that the circuits are connected to the antenna wirelessly. They’ve been connected through wires and a bunch of other components. That’s where the power gets lost,” Mr. Shamim said.
