Pre-Cision Driving: Latest Pre/Touchstone BMW Hack

Back in June '09 we got word of how he rigged a Palm Pre's Touchstone magnetic-induction charger/base in his BMW.  The result was a niftier-than-nifty car-charger hack that securely held his Pre, kept it juiced off the car's electrical system (or at worst, the cigarette lighter), and allowed for hands-free operation at the same time.

Meet Bimmer-Pre 2.0.  This edition brings the Pre up closer to eye level — ideal for GPS'ing (in this case, Sprint Navigation — take that, Tom Tom/iPhone!).  Sez Ron, "Best Buy was able to install a Touchstone on my dash at eye level with one small cord showing. Velcro (from Staples) holds it securely…The cord is only exposed for 1/2 an inch.
When [the Pre] is on the Touchstone, it looks very natural, like it was designed that way."

As we said in the first story, this is how all in-car phone chargers should work.  Bravo, Dr. Ron, brah-vo.
