Whether its text based communication or annoying promises of extended iPhone battery life, the free iPhone application wars never seem to stop.  Here are a few new and popular iPhone games and applications that may be for you, and maybe even one that is for everyone.

Meebo

It seemed for a moment in time that cell phone text
messaging took the place of the instant message all together.  The instant message was rather primitive,
regulated simply to those who hung around their desktops constantly.  AIM and MSN Messenger remained useful in
those places, but if you really wanted to get somewhere you had to dot over a
text message.  The problem here is that
these text messages have become relatively expensive and do not necessarily tap
into the same network that your instant messenger did.  Thankfully the iPhone has but together an
effort to integrate all these remote communication modules into one Zeitgeist of
a touch device.  Now you can get all of
these services right from your touch screen, and even set them up for push
functions that utilize the iPhone's unique features.  For those of us that operate on multiple IM
wavelengths it is annoying to have to download several costly applications and
navigate them separately, which is why Meebo has come in to rescue us.  Meebo, which will also allow Push
notifications, allows the integration of all of these.  You do have to register a Meebo account new,
but you can do this quickly from your iPhone. 
You can then select from a whole host of networking, ranging from social
networking sites' IM services like Facebook and MySpace IM, to more standard
ones like AIM and Windows Live, all the way to gems from the past like ICQ.  This is all relatively simple and easy to use
without any new surprises that make it over complicated or a chore to use.  An absolute must have for anyone that
utilizes Instant Messaging.

Battery Boost

Battery Boost is a strange free iPhone application and a fundamentally
dishonest one as well.  Battery Boost
does not give you adequate information about what this free iPhone application
is, and therefore many people assume that it is a piece of software that can
save your iPhone's battery life.  This is
not true because an application does not really have the ability to extend iPhone
battery life, but wishful thinking will do a lot.  What Battery Boost actually is is a content
application that gives you tips for how to save your iPhone's battery
life.  These iPhone battery life tips are
pretty standard and familiar, but they are still a little nice for those who
just cannot seem to keep their iPhone on for longer than a day.  What is annoying about Battery Boost is that
the first thing you see when you open it is an advertisement for the full, pay version.  Inside Battery Boost you have a fairly basic
set up that you can get the full use of in less than three minutes.  Along with that is a constantly changing
banner ad at the top of your touch screen. 
The advertising wars have found an unfriendly companion in iPhone users,
and there is no reason to invite them in if you do not need what they are
paired with.  Instead of downloading and installing
Battery Boost it would just be better to do a quick internet search and find all
the iPhone battery life tips you need.  Do not even think about paying for the full version.

New York Rollercoaster Rush

New York Rollercoaster Rush is, as the title might make you assume, a game where you ride in a rollercoaster.  This sound stupid right off the bat as the main idea of a rollercoaster is that you do not control it, and therefore the fun comes from the real world experience.  This iPhone game actually brings a fair amount of excitement as you decide exactly how the contents of each car adjusts themselves for what is coming.  The graphics are superb and make New York Rollercoaster Rush appear immediately engaging right from the start, which is not true of the majority of iPhone games.  The free iPhone game version of New York Rollercoaster Rush is fairly sparse in terms of actual content and the full version has forty tracks and another forty challenge races, which actually give this fun premise enough leg room to maintain interest.  The full version of New York Rollercoaster Rush is a little steep at $4.99, which means you should try out the free iPhone game version first to see if you are into it.  That principle may be true of all iPhone games that have a free trial version.
