Science Gone Too Far: The Vitamin-C-Powered iPhone

Knock knock.  "Who's there?"  Orange.  "Orange who?"  Orange you glad you didn't recharge your iPhone this way?

As the above video shows, someone with a scientific bent — and WAAAAY too much time on their hands — got to wondering how many orange slices, strung together as a "simple cell," would generate enough electricity to charge a typical iPhone.

Short answer?  Nearly six HUNDRED oranges — sliced into nearly twenty-four hundred segments. 

Somewhere in Heaven, Rube Goldberg is either smiling or rolling his eyes in disbelief.
