The Acid3 Test is a standardized rendering test of web browsers (both desk and mobile) in which any score under 100 is considered a “failure.” As you can see from the above screen caps, Safari on the iPhone gets a perfect 100 — while the new Opera Mini browser comes in a distant second with 74.
(To put this in perspective: this writer’s day-job computer, running IE 6.0 — yeah, we’re not exactly cutting edge here — scored a 12. A twelve…)
When we reviewed the Opera Mini browser for iPhone, we totally forgot to run this test. Mea maxima culpa.

Safari fails Acid3 too. It doesn’t match the reference image.
So apparently Safari is a “failure” too.
all relative
, it passes the test but fails at some rendering.
100>74
I think there is a misunderstanding of what Opera Mini *IS*. It’s purpose ( and likely the primary reason it was approved ) is not to be a full browser. Hence it will not pass anything that requires javascript and such. The pages are rendered and compressed on Opera’s servers and then sent to the mobile device, which is how they achieve the blinding speed in comparison.
And this improved your browsing experience by…. um.. well.. holding up that Acid3 test screen to your geeky friends sure made them say ‘whoa… cool… ‘.
You sure showed them!
No, to pass Acid3 you need to look exactly the same as the reference rendering. Fail to do that, and you fail the test. Read the test criteria
Well, Acid 3 is just one of the many benchmarks to be used. Personally, what I like about Opera on iPhone, is that it’s way much faster on most sites.
In the event if I need to access some sites that require serious rendering, I’ll switch to Safari. Well, 2 choices are better than 1.
Well I ran the tests on both browsers on my iPhone and both got an equal score of 97/100!!
No, it’s not “it passes the test but fails at some rendering”, it’s “it get 100/100 but fails the test”.
On the other hand, Opera Mobile passes the test. And Opera mini gets 97/100 in normal condition, which is amazing when you know that Opera Mini is not a real web browser (every pages are compressed on Opera servers before sent to the phone).
Something wrong with your test.
