OMG! iOS 4 has changed the way things work on the iPhone! So, in our ongoing effort to be as helpful as possible, we're going to let you know how the home screen button works.
Several things are different after all, most notably the programmability of the home button. You used to able to decide what functionality the double click had, but no more!
We have had to sacrifice that neat feature for the iPhone's new multi-tasking functionality, which makes use of the double click.
So what's left? Here's the run down of iPhone iOS4 Home Button Tricks!
iPhone Home Button Trick 4: Spotlight
Press the home button from the first page to go to Spotlight search. Press it again from Spotlight search to go back to the first page.
iPhone Home Button Trick 3: Back to One
Press the home button to go back to the first page from any other page on your iPhone. It's much easier than swiping back 8 times.
iPhone Home Button Trick 2: iPod Controls
If the phone is locked, and you have music/video playing on the iPod, double clicking the home button will allow you to control your iPod without unlocking your iPhone.
and the big one! *drumroll*
iPhone Home Button Trick 1: Multi-Tasking!!!!
Double click the home button, while in an app and the screen will lift up and grey out to reveal a tool bar. This tool bar shows all of your recently opened apps. Use your finger to swipe left or right to navigate through the icons. Click on the app you want to open and it rotates into the foreground. Presto, change-o, you are working in a new app, the other still available in the back ground.
