Open Mouth. Insert Foot. Echo Globally.
From the "There's No Pas Like A Faux Pas" Department: Speaking in Washington, DC at Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC), MS's chief operating officer compared the problem-plagued iPhone 4 with his company's own Vista operating system. It was not intended as a complement.
"It looks like the iPhone 4 might be their Vista, and I'm okay with that," quipped Kevin Turner.
Mind you, Vista was so nearly universally reviled by Windows users, it sparked a class-action lawsuit — during which time, leaked emails from MS executives revealed that even THEY thought the OS was a dog.
Prior to his Vista gaffe, Turner had joked, "One of the things I want to make sure you know today is that you're going to be able to use a Windows Phone 7 and not have to worry about how you're holding it to make a phone call."
Sounds like he shoulda quit while he was ahead. (Or maybe he was taking a cue from Nokia, who recently poked fun at the iPhone even as their product line stagnates…)
