See You In September? iPod Touch May Get Front Camera This Fall

Sources as geographically distant as mainland China and Great Britain are hinting that a major refresh of the iPod Touch is en route this September — and a front-facing camera is Numero Uno on the list of rumored upgrades.

MacRumors reports that Chinese trade site is displaying what purport to be next-gen iTouch LCD's and digitizers with a big honkin' hole in the center of the front panel — a logical place to park a front-facing camera.  (Which begs the question: why wasn't the front cam on the iPhone 4 centered as well?  Simple: that's where the earpiece is — 'cuz, y'know, it'a a phone.) 

Meanwhile, according to Pocket Lint (, UK retailer John Lewis's recent Christmas look-ahead event ran down what to expect in the new iTouch, including an improved 5 megapixel camera with flash that'll shoot HD video, social networking tools, bith an accelerometer and gyroscope for improved gaming, and FaceTime over Wi-Fi.

Apple, meanwhile, is too busy putting out iPhone 4 public-relation fires to confirm or deny any of this…
