Newer is automatically better, right?  Not necessarily.  That's the conclusion Chris Pinnock (http://vimeo.com/chrispinnock) came to when he benchmarked four generations of iPhone side by side.  As you might guess, the i4 smoked its predecessors in most tasks — yet the 3G beat everyone out of the gate for startup time, while the lowly 1G had the fastest shutdown.  Ah, progress.
