Apple has been granted a handful of patents that relate to their iPhone and iPod designs. Apple files many patents, and because their media devices are so popular, it's understandable why they would choose to protect their properties. The claims in the filings simply say that the patent is for "the ornamental design for an electronic device, as shown and described."
Most of the filings are very straightforward and and show pictures of their products from various angles. As usual, many of the illustrations contain dotted lines, which mean that those are not part of the design being patented.
