Yes, we all love Apple's magical tablet as an awesome multimedia device, and it's great for reading magazines and books, but it is also a great educational tool, as well.

The compact design and large screen make it the perfect reference device to drop in your backpack and head back to classes.

Interactive exploration of the periodic table. Yes, it is expensive but it is also completely awesome. One of the marque iPad apps, the one you show off to your friends. It's also hella functional.

Solar Walk – 3D solar system model

Landscape only but it is a cool 3D model of the solar system. It's not comprehensive as we'd like, some moons are missing, but hopefully it will be updated. Great for a budding young astronomer.
