Free Wi-Fi Finder, which is one of the most logically named free iPhone apps around, promises a clean search for free Wi-Fi connections in your area.  You get three standard options for searching through free Wi-Fi connections for your iPhone: search for free Wi-Fi connections near your specific location, search through Wi-Fi connections on a global sense, or download the Free Wi-Fi Finder database to your iPhone for offline viewing. 

The first option, which allows you to find free Wi-Fi connections for your iPhone in your area is effective once you get past the full screen ad you have to deal with.  It will use the iPhone's location feature and will give you a map of your area with a series of green pins, each holding a commercial location that offers free Wi-Fi connections for your iPhone or computer.  You have the option to change search specifics such as filter out different location types. 

Once you select a location you can add it to a favorites list, make a phone call, or get directions there.  All of this works well in Free Wi-Fi Finder and the ability to download the database to your iPhone so you can look through it when offline is a brilliant way to bring the service onto your iPhone once you do not want to violate the limits of your iPhone's data plan.  Go ahead and try out Free Wi-Fi Finder as it will likely be the first of many free Wi-Fi apps for the iPhone, but right now it stands out as one of the best.
