Hey, programmers — tired of waiting for the App Store to approve your digital pride and joy? Take a page out of PlayOn's playbook: unhappy with how Apple was dragging their feet on the approval, they went the HTML5 web-app route and came up with a way to stream video (including Hulu, Netflix, Comedy Central, and other sources) to your iDevice.
Here's how it works: First, you have to be a registered PlayOn user, which'll set you back $39.99 for the first year and $19.99 after that, or a flat up-front fee of $79.99. Next, download and install the PlayOn client to your PC (sorry, no Mac version) with a home Wi-Fi network. Once the app is running, open up a browser on your mobile device and surf over to m.playon.tv to see a list of devices running PlayOn. Select the desired device, and your PC will sling a variety of video content to your handheld.
The PlayOn PC client can also stream to video consoles or other devices in your house.
