Verizon announced a new App for streaming television broadcasts to tablet devices such as the iPad.
Verizon CTO Shaygan Kheradpir demonstrated the App, which will let FiOS subscribers stream television content over wifi to their iPad. The ultimate goal is to turn mobile devices into the next step in TV viewing. Though the App will begin as something only viewable over wifi, Verizon hopes to eventually make TV available anywhere.
Though the main focus of the presentation was the iPad, Kheradpir said that the application will eventually come to other tablets, laptops and smartphones.
Currently, they are in negotiations with television providers, so they don't yet have a timeframe for launch.
