VEVO, the YouTube partner that houses music videos, now has released their own free app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The app gives you access to every video in the VEVO catalog, now over 22,000 videos from over 7,000 artists.
The Vevo app is also compatible with the iPad, but Vevo is creating a separate app for the magical iDevice with additional features. No doubt it will take full advantage of the larger screen size, otherwise what is the point?
Launched in December to middling response to critics ( We need another YouTube? Don't they do music videos already ) it nevertheless became one of the most popular video properties in the U.S.
Due in no small part to the large amount of content it offers. Artists and copyright owners, are even getting some money when their videos are distributed through Vevo, which wasn't the default before.
Every iPhone comes with a YouTUbe app what makes this better? Well, most of the videos on Vevo aren't available through YouTube. Vevo has also set a high quality bar, so the videos look and sound good, and we know that doesn't necessarily happen through the YouTube app. Especially when viewed on 3G.
The Vevo app has a couple features the iPhone YouTube app notably lacks, such as trivia facts that appear while the video loads and a 30-second rewind feature, similar to what the iPhone uses in Audiobooks.
The Vevo app available free in the iTunes App store.
