Yup, Android Gingerbread features near field communication technology (NFC). At the Web 2.0 conference, Google CEO Eric Schmidt showed off a Nexus S equipped with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). The new version of the mobile operating system adds NFC which, as we all know, makes mobile transactions possible.
Rather than carrying around a credit card, users can swipe their phone. Apple is said to be working on the technology as well to incorporate it to the iPhone 5. We definitely see it becoming one of the next big things in the mobile business.
As for an Android 2.3 release date? Schmidt has already said that Gingerbread will be available in "the next few weeks." Which may also be an indication as when we will see this phone become available.
