Cult of Mac is reporting that the rumored one-two-three punch of (1) an early release of iOS 4.3 in support of (2) iDevice apps that support internal subscription payment, such as (3) News Corp.'s iPad periodical The Daily…won't be happening as soon as we'd hoped.
As we originally reported, the ability to pay for an ongoing subscription from within an app is scheduled to be supported by iOS 4.3, which itself was originally scheduled for a December 2010 launch. Unfortunately, the iOS 4.2 launch scheduled for the beginning of November got pushed back when Wi-Fi issues were discovered in the "gold master" (i.e. the moments-away-from-prime-time beta). This begged the question of whether the year-end release of 4.3 was still in the cards.
Uh, that would be a big ol' "nay." Three very aggressive upgrades and/or new product launches, so closely tied together — and so close to the Christmas holiday business slowdown — just doesn't make sense. Look for the iOS 4.3 rumor mill to begin grinding anew on the other side of January 1st.
