There are reports circulating indicating that the VLC open-source video player for iPhone and iPad will be removed from the App Store.
The App was released by Applidium a while back and gave users the ability to play back various video formats on their iOS devices.
If the rumors are to be believed, VideoLAN, who owns the code and licenses it under the GPL (General Public License). Because VLC for iOS includes Apple's FairPlay DRM, it's said that it violates GPL. It's reported that VideoLAN has complained to Apple over the use. This is where things get harder to follow.
There is another side to the story, however. It seems that VideoLAN has posted on their official Twitter page, and they claim that they have not complained to Apple. They say the situation is complex.
