It's New Year's Eve, and that means that 2011 is less than 24-hours away. Time flies, doesn't it? Well, we just wouldn't be a proper iPhone blog if we didn't compile a list of great Apps to help celebrate the new year. Would we?
So, in honor of 2011, and as a farewell to 2010, here are a list of Apps to help you celebrate the new year:
1) 8,500 Drink and Cocktail Recipes – Free
Look for any bartender App or drink App and you are sure to find something to download. This one wins over the competition for one simple reason: You can plug in the stuff you happen to have on hand and this will show you what you can make with it. This is great for users who are hosting their own New Year's Eve party and have a bar at home.
2) Appetizers & Snack Recipes – Free
If you are hosting a New Year's Eve party, you are probably catering, too. Yeah, friends will be bringing chips, drinks and salsa, but the host often puts together a few quick finger foods for everyone. That's where this will come in handy. It's a free app of appetizers and snacks. Perfect for a party where people will be grabbing food off trays and carrying it off on a paper plate.
3) Times Square Official New Year's Eve Countdown – Free
If you're on the the East Coast, this is definitely the App for you. Then again, if you are in any other time zone, you may want it anyway, so that you can celebrate the new year twice! This App has the official countdown for Times Square and it has a live video feed for those who want to see a stream of the action going on in New York.
4) R U Drunk – $1.99
R U Drunk is an App with a series of tests in game from. It checks your coordination, and uses the iPhone or iPod Touch accelerometer to determine your balance. The App will tell you if it thinks your drunk. Our advice? If you even think you need to check your sobriety, you should probably call a cab.
5) Cue the Cab for iPhone – Free
This is an App by Jose Cuervo. You enter your information as requested by the App and it will find you a nearby taxi company so that you can enjoy a safe ride home. Because, you know, a car accident is definitely not the best way to start the new year.
Bonus Project: The iPhone-Controlled Beer Cannon
This one is kind of an extensive DIY project. It involves an iPhone, a minifridge and several varieties of beer. Still, it's very nifty, and it lets everyone enjoy a spot on the couch without having to get up for a drink. The downside is that we don't know how good at catching a flying beer can you will be after a few drinks. Oh well, at least it makes for a fun video:
