Star Wars games are abundant, and that's an understatement. That said, they are also very popular on iOS devices like the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad.

Developers like THQ Wireless seem to have the license on Star Wars games for iOS, as most games that carry the Star Wars name are THQ's work. Ngmoco, Inc. did develop Imperial Academy, however, which also happens to be free (Nice!).

Have a look at some Star Wars games for iOS that are worth checking out:

1) Star Wars: Imperial Academy

The game's description says "Darth Vader wants you for his Imperial Academy" and puts you in four player death matches against other storm troopers. Interesting that the empire would put anyone through this kind of competition before joining the academy. Anyone who watched the Star Wars movies knows that Storm Troopers can't aim worth a damn.

2) Star Wars: Lightsaber Duel

Currently, it seems people are having problems with the App crashing, but when it works, it can be pretty cool. You choose a character and customize your Lightsaber's hilt and blade color. You can then battle a friend by swinging your device at them pretending its a powerful Jedi weapon.

In the Battle for Hoth, players will play as the rebel forces defending their base on the snowy planet of Hoth from the invading Empire. The game is basically just Star Wars tower defense, but can definitely be fun for those who are fans of the series and the tower defense genre.

7) Star Wars: Cantina and Star Wars Cantina HD

They just love making games based on A New Hope, because this game takes one of the famous locations from the movie and turns it into a Diner Dash-like game. What's awesome is that this one carries the Star Wars license. We just can't imagine how hard it would be to keep Jabba the Hut from going hungry.

The Force is With You in These Games

Some of them are better than others, but we avoided stuff that had totally bad ratings like "Star Wars Trivia" and you should, too. There are games for everybody, so while some may not like first-person shooters, others may like strategy games like Battle for Hoth. Others may prefer the more light-hearted action of the Cantina game. Either way, take a look, you may just find something you enjoy.
