Not happy with AT&T or Verizon as cell carrier choices for your new iPhone 4?
Ding-dong: Uncle Sam Wireless calling.
During the Iraq conflict, military aviation giant Lockheed Martin noticed an interesting phenomenon: most of the calls for fire were coming, not over Army radios, but via cell phones. To that end, they devised the MONAX: a military-grade iPhone case that eschews both the Death Star and Big V to connect soldiers via the military’s own super-reliable, super-secure 3G cell network. And, as you can see from the embedded video, if you need to call up an airstrike on some Taliban stronghold — yeah, there’s an app for that.
Needless to say, MONAX’s aren’t cheap (approximately US$1,000 per) and aren’t available to the general populace — but then again, neither was the Humvee originally.
