We've taken a look at some of the accessories for iPhone and iPod Touch that were featured at this year's CES in Vegas. There was plenty to choose from. Accessory makers also took a shot at the iPad with various charging docks, iPad stands and other gadgets created for Apple's tablet computer.
Let's have a look at some of what was at CES:
1) GorillaMobile Yogi
This thing lets you prop your iPad just about any way you'd like. The promo video above is rather amusing, just showing a dude how bendable the Yogi is. In the background, a gal does Yoga. We don't know quite what to think of it, but we will give them an E for effort.
2) Ion iCade
This little machine started out as an April Fools joke on ThinkGeek. Apparently, it was a big hit. So big, in fact, that it's actually become a reality. It's pretty awesome, and definitely a winner in our books. Even if it is just an arcade nostalgia thing.
3) Orbotix Sphero
This looks like a fun little toy. It's up there with the AR Drone, but probably has a much better battery life. It's controlled with an iOS device such as an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch. Just move your finger around the screen and the little ball goes in that direction. Simple as that.
4) Eternal HDD Enclosure for iPad by HyperMac
HyperMac's external hard drive enclosure will hold a standard 2.5-inch drive and has two USB ports. According to Engadget, you connect one to your computer and the other to your iPad. Given the pricetag, $100, we don't see it doing very well. They also note that the functionality is limited to just the iPad (no iPhone or iPod Touch support). It doesn't come with a hard drive either, so you are just paying for the enclosure. You are also limited to video and photos.
5) Fling Game Controller for iPad
This one was announced a few days ago, but now it's made its CES debut. The Fling Game Controller is a $25 attachment that sits on the iPad screen thanks to two little suction cups and allows for tactile joystick control in iPad games.
6) Blood pressure Dock
If you suffer from hypertension, this may be the accessory/App combo for you. It's a blood pressure monitor for the iPad and iPhone. What's nice about this blood pressure monitor is that it charges your iDevice. We wouldn't be surprised if the App keeps track of your blood pressure over time as well. It's available now at iHealth99.com for $100.
7) Visteon iPad Dash
Well, if you really can't be far from your iPad, even while driving, this may be the accessory for you. Actually, it's kind of cool. We just worry about how easy it would be for some thief to see an iPad in your car in plain sight and decide they'd like to own it instead. We also wonder how good it looks in daylight.
This is a wireless dongle that can be used to transfer files to and from mobile devices. One of the very interesting things about the device is that you can store video on the AirStash and stream it direct to the iPad via an HTML5 App. The video shows a demo of the device sharing files with the iPad. Have a look.
Still Not as Popular as the iPhone, it Seems
There wasn't as much going on with the iPad this year, from an accessory standpoint. Yeah, there were a few cool things, but there are also those things that make you say, "What?" Well, we are sure there will be more in the coming years as tablets like the iPad become more popular.
