At iSmashPhone.com, we love Netflix. They created — and dominated — the whole rent-DVD's-through-the-mail thing, combining a no-hassle way to get and return movies with a humongous catalog right out of the gate (take THAT, Blockbuster!). And the introduction of their "Watch Instantly" streaming service blasted beyond the convenience of watching flix on your computer to a passle of hardware devices that were Netflix-ready — not just Slingboxes and Apple TV's, but Netflix-widgeted Blu-Ray players and even wireless flat-screens.
So when a particularly rare and worthwhile bit of content shows up, we wanna bring it to your attention. Case in point: the original 6-episode BBC adaptation of Douglas Adams' sci-fi farce THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY. Mind you, this was made back in 1981, so expect the special effects to be a bit on the cheesy side — like vintage DOCTOR WHO-level cheesy (and in fact, Adams became the head writer on WHO not long after). On the other hand, it's still scads better than the recent big-budget bomb of a movie adaptation.
So log into your Netflix account (WHAT?!? You don't have one yet? Sacrilege!), grab your towel and a Pan-Galactic Gargleblaster, and thumb along with Arthur, Ford, Zaphod, and Marvin the Paranoid Android as they seek the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything. [SPOILER ALERT: It's 42.]
