Hover? Damn! Apple Files Patent For Hands-Off Sensing

If you put the words "iDevice" and "hover" in the same sentence, you'd get…the AR Drone, right?

Not necessarily.  Apple recently filed a patent application for "touch and hover sensing," i.e. a capacitive sensor array on your computer or handheld device screen that would not only react to touch, but the position and proximity of your hand over the screen.  The technology itself is not new (read up on the theremin) — and in fact, Apple filed a similar patent application two years ago — but with the rise of motion-tracking home video gaming (e.g. the Wii and Kinect), someone at the House of Jobs is thinking of bringing it into the iDevice fold.
