Remember forever ago when we showed you how to hack your 1st-gen Apple TV to play Boxee and XBMC? Here's a refresher.
Apple TV
Well, recently, it became possible to install XBMC on your second-generation Apple TV. Interested? Here's How:
1) Jailbreak your Apple TV with Seas0nPass (download for Mac here). It's a tethered jb, which means, you guessed it, you will have to plug your box into the computer when you relaunch it.
a) You will also need a Micro USB cable to plug your Apple TV into the computer.
b) When you launch Seas0nPass, choose "Create IPSW" this will create your custom firmware.
c) You will be prompted to connect your Apple TV to your computer via USB. Know that you will also need your Apple Remote to hold down the menu and Play/Pause buttons two seven seconds as instructed by the onscreen prompts.
d) iTunes should launch and start the restore process. You are done.
e) Some firmware versions will require you to plug into your computer during startup and launch Seas0nPass and initiate a tethered boot.
2) Now you will need to SSH your Apple TV. Launch your terminal in OS X, and use the following commands:
ssh root@apple-tv.local
echo "deb http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2 ./" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xbmc.list
apt-get update
apt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2
