The video above shows an untethered jailbreak of iOS 4.2 running on an iPhone 4. Posted by p0sixninja, it shows the iPhone 4 starting up and Cydia being launched.
We've been waiting for an untethered jailbreak of iOS 4.2 for some time now. While some older iOS devices will definitely run the jailbreak untethered, newer devices like the iPad, iPhone 4 and certain models of the iPod Touch and iPhone 3GS will not run without having to plug into the computer at startup. This can be a real hassle, especially if your phone runs out of juice or you have to reboot for some reason and aren't near your computer.
That's why we've all been looking forward to it. It looks as if the Chronic Dev-Team is just about ready to go, with the exception of one bug they have to squash, as pod2g mentioned via Twitter:
"A small bug remains, the wifi icon don't show up. But it's there. As you see, we need some more time to fix and pack everything."
