The iPad-exclusive newspaper is launching today. It's New Corp.'s attempt at trying to remain a major player in the newspaper industry. It's going to combine the best of both worlds by giving readers the quality of an edited newspaper with the interactivity and quick reporting of the digital era (video, Twitter feeds, news as it happens).
At 99 cents a week, its going to be a hard deal to beat. Users will be happy to know that the first two weeks will be free, thanks to Verizon. From there, subscribers can be billed weekly at 99 cents, or simply choose to pay a yearly $39.99.
Thanks to no longer needing to ship truckloads of paper and no more printing. Murdoch has said that the Daily is running at less than half a million dollars a week, which means that turning over a profit should be somewhat easier than previous newspaper models.
