6 Most Awesome Uses We’ve Seen for Your Old Mac

The G4 Cube is a classic computer that was considered much too expensive at the time of release for the typical consumer. We talked about a bit in the past when we mentioned Apple's lesser-loved products. While we did call it a "lesser-loved" product, that is not to say it didn't have it's fans. Actually, some of those fans have managed to do some of the most interesting things we've seen with these computers.

1) G4 Cube Fish Tank

This is the G4 Cube Fish Tank. It's one of the first ones we came across, and is probably one of the oldest such examples on the internet. It's a great use for an old G4 Cube, and still remains on the top as one of our favorites.

2) G4 Cube as an Art Piece

This one may not be of any practical use, but it looks pretty. It's a G4 Cube decorated with a bunch of LED lights. The LEDs can be adjusted to change the colors of the Cube. Sure, you won't be able to keep your fish in it, but it's just as enjoyable to look at. No having to feed it, either.

3) G4 Cube Tissue Box

Perfect for the geek who's watching Marley & Me or any recent Pixar film. Not that we cry or anything while watching Toy Story 3 or Up. We're just saying, you know…in case you have to blow your nose or you get something in your eye.

4) G4 Cube Toaster

Toast is awesome, especially with a little bit of butter and some jelly. Now imagine making the toast in your beautiful, reused G4 Cube. That's what this does. It looks like it will be a bit of cleanup with all those plastic shavings all over the counter, but it should be well worth it if they get to make toast in that. You can read more about it here.

5) G4 Cube Speaker

It's hard to tell if this one is real, but the concept is cool. It's basically an iPod dock with speakers attached. It may not be one of the most amazing ones we've seen (these are some of our favorites), but it's a very cool way to make use of an old Cube.

Worthy of Mention - Power Mac G4 Clock 

That's a pretty sweet clock. It's also the best use we've seen for that Mighty Mouse, something we were never quite fans of. You won't find as many modified versions of these as you will Cubes, but it's a cool creative use.

Reusing Your Old Mac

Finding a new use for an old computer can mean anything from turning into a portable video player to a jukebox. Those are cool ideas, but the ones above involve using it for something that the computer was never intended for.
